CACT E-STUDIO

Searching for a reliable updated portal for the contemporary art scene in Greece?

The Contemporary Art Center of Thessaloniki introduces cact-e-studio

What is the cact-e-studio?

The Contemporary Art Center of Thessaloniki launches a new digital platform aiming to present contemporary Greek art; cact-e-studio.

Cact-e-studio is a constantly expanding archive that records and evaluates every significant activity in art workshops, and suggests artists and works that stand out.  It is not just a database but rather a critical presentation regarding the development, diversity and prospect of contemporary Greek art in the international context.

Who works on this new project?

Cact-e-studio is based on a collective effort taken on, at this early stage, entirely by the staff of the Contemporary Art Center and the State Museum of Contemporary Art, both in Thessaloniki, Greece.

The curators suggest signed, according to their personal selection and evaluation, those artists whose work reflects the range, the pursuits and achievements of contemporary art in Greece. Once the first database is established, cact-e-studio invites independent curators to make their own propositions, which are then incorporated into the platform in order to broaden the diversity and open communication.

Why take this initiative now? What are we aiming at?

We have been working on e-studio since late 2011 in an effort to support contemporary artistic creation in many ways -especially now- taken that our financial resources reinforcing production have become limited.

Moreover, we believe that cact-e-studio will fill a large gap concerning the presentation and awareness on artistic creation in Greece on an international scale.  Cact-e-studio addresses to visual arts’ professionals, curators, researchers, collectors, people working on contemporary art either inside or outside institutions, and contemporary art enthusiasts as well. It also aims to update colleagues working abroad who seek a portal that introduces them to contemporary Greek art, a portal of perspective, reliability and professional documentation.

The first posts will be ready shortly.
