Warehouse Β1, Thessaloniki Port
13 January – 9 March 2012
Opening: Friday January 13, 2012, 20:00

The Contemporary Art Center of Thessaloniki (SMCA) presents Lydia Dambassina’s latest exhibition, Party’s over-Starts over, from January 13 until March 9, 2012 (opening: Friday January 13, 2012, 20:00, opening hours: Tuesday-Sunday 10:00 -18:00 / closed on Mondays).
In the exhibition Party’s over – Starts over, Dambassina presents her latest project, which started in 2008 and was completed in 2011, touching upon various aspects of the economic, cultural and moral crisis plaguing Greece and beyond.
The exhibition consists of a central installation, which is complemented by three sculptures and a series of staged, large-scale photographs accompanied by texts which are primarily excerpts taken from the daily Press. These fragments of discourse and imagery form their own narrations, which speak of the tragedy of futile efforts and the ethics of the impasse, while current events acquire the characteristics of ontological philosophy, showcasing existential questions. Lydia Dambassina attempts to express, the stance of the contemporary artist with regard to the problems of the time.
Her interdisciplinary approach (painting, construction, installation, photography, and image projection), the size and rigorousness of pictures, the selection of the themes, as well as the association of text and image are the major defining characteristics of her work. In Party’s over-Starts over they amount to a coherent statement and formation, to a multifaceted connection of images and situations, to a cohesive visual environment, original and innovative, yet at the same time rich and full in content, connotations and multiple readings.
