Woman and Tradition

“Woman and Tradition”

Thoughts on UNESCO’s exhibition at the
Contemporary Art Center of Thessaloniki

The promotion of feminine artistic creation from different geographical and cultural areas around the Mediterranean and the Black Sea, intends not only to introduce their work, but also to investigate the relationships between different aspects of tradition.
The curator’s interest is focused in the way these women artists are using all kinds of media (painting, sculpture, design, photography, video, installations etc) and treat or discuss major and everyday topics, sometimes in a critical or in a reformative way and sometimes with a subversive disposition.
This exhibition’s ambition is to create new premises for dialogue, for prolific meetings or valid oppositions, which will alternatively enlighten the relationships between people and their histories.
